South African born fashion designer, Stanley Baptiste, was raised in the City of Roses, Bloemfontein. Stanley’s interest in fashion started at a very young age. As a boy he had an obsession in creating the most glamorous doll dresses and attending weddings to examine the brides choice of dress, would be a highlight on the calendar
He completed his schooling career at the all-boys school- Grey College. In his leisure time, Stanley would take sewing classes from a local seamstress and from as early as Grade 11 he would create occasion wear on commission.
After school, Stanley spent a year in Europe. Returning to South Africa, he obtained an internationally recognized BA Honours degree in fashion design.
Driven by the precision to perfect and learn as much as possible, Stanley would spend most of his holiday periods working for several already established designers. These encounters with the ‘real world’ granted him the opportunity to learn and pick up tricks of the trade that he found could only be taught once one is exposed to the actual industry.
Stanley is known for his high standard in classic design style of bridal and eveningwear. A structured base, that is well fitted, forms the foundation of most of his designer pieces. The garments are complete with great attention payed to finishing and detail. A slight whimsical feel seems to be a signature touch to every dress.
Stanley finds great inspiration in having the ability to transform people. He feels privileged when a bride selects him as her designer of choice to create and play such a major role in her life’s history through making her dream dress a reality.
“In a world where one can so easily be consumed by all that is dark- it is so important to see, find and create beauty, to bring joy and wonder to oneself as well as to others.”
